Chinese scientists have used desertification control technology to nurture 20 varieties of salt-tolerant plants in a nursery garden by the Aral Sea. The Aral Sea, once the world's fourth largest body of inland water, had shrunk to 10 percent of its size in 1960.
Chinese researchers have found that the impact of human activities on the Aral Sea is far greater than that of climate change. The Aral Sea, located between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, was once the world's fourth-largest inland waterbody.
